Collection: Hop Up Units & Buckings

What are Hop Up Units?

In this section you will find replacement and upgrade components to hop up units and buckings. The hop up unit or hop up chamber is what houses the inner barrel and bucking and is where a BB is loaded and fired from. The bucking and other associated parts within the hop up unit work together to produce backspin on a BB as it is fired and leaves the barrel. This backspin creates additional life and counteracts the forces of gravity and drag by using a principal known as the magnus effect. A properly functioning hop up unit and bucking should do the following: provide the hop up effect to the BB consistently, deliver consistent velocity, and feed exactly one BB into the chamber at a time.

Q&A
Q: Should I upgrade my hop up bucking?
A: If you are experiencing things such as wild fluctuations or massive drops in velocity, it could be a sign of a torn or worn out
bucking. If you are experiencing jams that are not the fault of any other part of your system, your bucking might be suspect.
Those seeking better accuracy out of their guns can experiment with aftermarket upgrade buckings as well. Buckings are sold
with different hardness ratings which are suited to specific power ranges in airsoft guns. The ratings will either be noted as
hard or soft, or a degree rating. A hard bucking uses stronger rubbers resistent to wear from friction assosciated with hard
shooting airsoft guns. Hard buckings are usually using 70 degree rubber. A softer bucking is intended for pistols and other lower
velocity guns and is generally using a 50 degree hardness for rubber..

Q: How long should a bucking last?
A: A bucking should last tens of thousands of rounds or more or less. The bucking is a component made of rubber and can dry
out and lose its effectiveness. Hot and dry environments may also affect the bucking life as does extreme cold. It is good
practice to replace this component periodically because it will not last forever and can go bad even if you never use the
airsoft gun.

Q: Should I upgrade my hop up unit?
A: Generally speaking, if your hop up unit is doing its job properly, it is our recommendation that you do not change anything
unless it breaks. Hop up chamber tolerances and specifications can vary greatly in an aftermarket part so sometimes a simple
drop in upgrade might not work the way it was intended. That being said, we understand the urge for people to upgrade things
for the sake of upgrading them, so please do so with the expectation that there may be some work required to make sure that
new part functions.

How long should my hop up unit last?
A plastic hop up unit should last indefinitely. Using poorly fitting magazines, forcing magazines in when the hop up unit might not
be seated in the right position, or doing anything forcefully could damage the hop up unit itself resulting in the need to replace.
A cracked hop up unit might not seal properly anymore and leak air, resulting in a huge drop in velocity.
